Carpe diem folks... Carpe diem !

"We are food for worms, lads !" It was the beginning of a motivational speech conducted by the English teacher, Mr.Keating from the movie Dead Poets Society. Yes, every one of us will someday turn cold and die. It can be after 20 years, 10 years, a month, or a day! Therefore, "carpe diemquam minimum credula poster"!
Which is a Latin quotation from book 1 of the Roman poet Horace. It means:

"Seize the day, put little trust in tomorrow"!

I believe that god, throughout 2020, has opened our eyes once more to how fragile our life is.
More than 1 million human beings died because of a respiratory virus that cannot be seen by the naked eye and the number is keeping on increasing. We cannot banish death from our way nor the fear from death, but what we can do is use that fear as fuel to keep moving forward at a more rapid pace.

So, it's high time we seize the day folks!
The main question that will naturally pop up now is HOW?
We've all had enough of the "bring out the lion in you" speeches, don't we?
We all want to debunk the practical secrets behind designing a well-lived life, right?

Well, the main secret is "to rebel"! I'm not talking about anarchism but I'm inviting you to rebel brilliantly! Sometimes, we make our own mental prison from which we must escape.
Rebel against the odds and conformity. Every one of us can be a rebel and let us rebel with a purpose!

Parents can rebel by raising their kids as leaders from a very young age. They ought to teach them how to make decisions, to follow the path they want to follow, to work on their ethics, to fight for their dreams, and to cultivate themselves.

Teachers can rebel by innovating their pedagogical approaches, opting to unleash their student's creativity by encouraging them to think. To give sense to every piece of information they are trying to transfer.
Maths and physics teachers can help their students gain an early interest in this amazing subject by exploring its potential applications, making visualizations, and teaching them the philosophy behind each abstract theorem instead of simply memorizing it.
Literature teachers can help their students to free their minds, hold the pen, and write their stream of thoughts, poems, and artistic manifestations!

Health professionals can rebel by breaking the chains of the classical cold patient-specialist relationship where patients are being looked upon as a health issue instead of human beings in the first place!
They ought to call them by their first names, smile at them, and build a firm relationship with them to gain their full trust. Health professionals' main duty is not evolving just around delaying the death of a patient, but to improve their life's quality!
"You treat a disease, you win or lose, you treat a person, you'll win, no matter what the outcome"!
This was among the catchy sayings I grasped from the movie Patch Adams. A movie that I invite every health professional to watch.

Managers can rebel by implementing up-to-date technologies in their enterprises or industries.
AI, IoT, VR&AR, RPA, and many other trending advanced technologies are making a boom worldwide, unlocking many doors for improvements, yet, many managers still suffer from technophobia and go by the saying "leave it as it is".

Students can rebel by expanding their knowledge and tapping into different subjects.
For instance, an engineering student should get his head around poems, philosophy, or psychology.
The same thing applies to all students from different disciplines.

The bottom line from all of this is to live your life, not someone else's life!
To make a change! To be the change!
To break some rules once in a while.
No one can label you and no one can define you!
Once again, Carpe Diem, seize the day, and make your life extraordinary!

  1. I think people are certainly starting to think a bit differently now. It's a shame that it took a killer virus to make us change our ways.
